Smoking Cessation

Synopsis:

This video tape includes the discussion of: demographics, statistics, and prevalence rate in Arkansas; health effects of tobacco use; nicotine addiction; preventive and counseling strategies; pharmacotherapy; approaches, barriers and insurance coverage involved in smoking cessation; and alternatives such as herbal, hypnotherapy and acupuncture therapy.

Objectives:

After completing this Video Tape, you should be able to:

  1. List at least 3 reasons why smoking cessation programs that target older adults should be developed;
  2. Explain the relationship between smoking, indoor air quality, and health that impact older adults in Arkansas;
  3. Identify key elements of a successful smoking cessation program that focuses on older Arkansans;
  4. Describe available programs on smoking cessation at individual and institutional levels in Arkansas; and
  5. Recommend measures that if enacted at the local, county, and/or state level would positively impact on air quality of residents.
