GI Motility Disorders

This free video teleconference, jointly sponsored by the AGEC, the GRECC at CAVHS and the Reynolds Institute on Aging at UAMS, requires no participant pre-registration. Attendees to this VTC will receive 2 hours of CE credits.

Objectives

At the completion of this 2-hour video teleconference, the attendees will be able to:

    • Describe the pathophysiology and symptoms of esophageal dysmotility,
    • Evaluate these symptoms in the clinical setting,
    • Enumerate pharmacologic, endoscopic and surgical treatment of disorders of upper gastrointestinal motility,
    • Discuss multiple syndromes which constipate the clinical presentation of clinical constipation,
    • Identify the appropriate diagnostic approach to the constipated patient and
    • Review emerging treatments for refractory constipation with an emphasis on pharmacologic and behavioral treatments of the constipated patient.

    Faculty:

    Muhannad M. Heif, MD is Assistant Professor and Director of the Geriatrics Clerkship, DWR Department of Geriatrics, College of Medicine, University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences and Staff Physician (Chief Level) and Director of the Geriatrics Evaluation and Management Unit at Central Arkansas Veterans Healthcare System (CAVHS) Little Rock, Arkansas. Dr. Heif is a diplomate of the American Boards of Geriatric and Internal Medicine.

    Kevin Olden, MD, is Jerome S. Levy Professor of Medicine and Director, Division of Gastroenterology & Hepatology, College of Medicine, at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS). Dr. Olden is a diplomate of the Boards of Internal Medicine and Psychiatry and Neurology. He holds a subspecialty diploma in Gastroenterology from the American Board of Internal Medicine.
