Cancer Prevention and Screening for Older Adults
Synopsis:
This video tape includes a discussion of: cancer burdens; breast, colorectal, prostate, and skin cancer; detection; prevention; and melanoma incidence.
Objectives:
After completing this video tape, you should be able to:
- Discuss the rationale for screening tests for breast, colon, prostate and skin cancer in older adults;
- Describe warning signs of breast, colon, prostate, and skin cancers;
- Describe at least one commonly used cancer prevention strategy for each type of cancer discussed; and
- Justify the cancer screening guidelines for older adults that are covered by Medicare.
Faculty:
Graham F. Greene, MD received his medical degree from Dalhouise University, Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. He also completed a Urology residence there. He was a Clinical Fellow in Urology at the University of Texas, M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, Texas, and afterwards a Junior faculty Associate for 1 year. In 1997, Dr. Greene became an Assistant Professor in the Department of Urology at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS), Little Rock, AR. He is currently the Head of Section of Genitourinary Oncology.
Ronda S. Henry-Tillman, MD attended the University Of California San Diego School Of Medicine. She did her general surgery residence at UAMS, Little Rock, and followed it with a surgery fellowship in disease of the breast. Dr. Henry-Tillman is an Assistant Professor, Department of Surgery, Division of Breast Surgical Oncology at UAMS, Chief of Women’s Oncology Service and a part-time staff physician at the Central Arkansas Veterans Health Care System (CAVHS).
Anne T. Mancino, MD is an Assistant Professor of Surgery and Director of Surgical Clerkship in the Department of Surgery, UAMS and the Chief of General Surgery at CAVHS in Little Rock, AR. Dr. Mancino received her medical degree from UAMS. She did her residency at the University of Louisville, Kentucky and did an Endocrine Research Fellowship at MGH/Harvard Medical School in Boston, MA.
Roberta L. Muldoon, MD is an Assistant Professor of Surgery, Director of Surgical Endoscopy and Co-Director of Student Surgical Education at UAMS. She is a graduate of Stritch School of Medicine, Maywood, Illinois. She did a general surgery residence at Loyola University of Chicago and an oncology-gastrointestinal surgical residency at UAMS.
Ramona Witcher, RN has worked for the Arkansas Foundation for Medical Care (AFMC) for fourteen years. Ms. Witcher is responsible for Medicare Beneficiary outreach in Arkansas. She counsels with Medicare beneficiaries, their representatives, and providers via the AFMC Beneficiary Helpline. In addition, Ms. Witcher is an educator for the Payment Error Prevention Program. Ms. Witcher is a graduate of Sparks Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in Fort Smith and The College of the Ozarks.
